Phoenix
Shuhui Gatrell graduated from National Central University in Taiwan,
R.O.C. with a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering. During
her college years, she developed a great interest in Semiconductor
materials and devices. As a senior she worked with a professor on
optoelectronic devices based on GaAs.
Upon her graduation from National Central University, Phoenix was
offered a full-time Teaching Assistant position in the department.
Phoenix maintained a set of stimulation machines, held lab sessions
to familiarize juniors of the Electrical Engineering Department
with the basic Communication theories and graded students for their
lab performance and understanding of the Communication theories.
Phoenix realized importance of combining a technical background
and Intellectual Property and went to work for the Intellectual
Property Department of Acer, Inc., the first Taiwanese Corporation
to have its own Intellectual Property department. With Acer, Phoenix
worked in the area of patent prosecution.
Driven by an interest in both programming and human languages, Phoenix
came to the United States and attended University of Utah taking
classes in the Computer Science department, as well as in the Linguistics
department. She graduated in the Linguistics department with TESOL
certificate.
